'84 Prosecco Extra Dry
Prosecco DOC, Treviso, Italy, NV
The ’84 Extra Dry is one of the most elegant Prosecco we have encountered in quite some time. Made from 100% Glera grapes, this is a bit drier than you might normally expect from Prosecco. A balanced version, with bright acidity providing fine cut for flavors of poached apricot, dried pineapple and praline as they ride the fine bead through to the lingering finish. This is a great aperitif or dessert wine, and would be beautiful with chocolate covered strawberries!

White Wines
Bohigas 'X' Xarel-lo
Catalunya, Spain, 2018
The wine has aromas and flavors of bright lemon, green apple, fresh herbs and spices. It is light-bodied with apple undertones and a fruity finish. The grape Xarel-lo is not unknown to us wine geeks, but we are much more accustomed to seeing it as a background element in blended Spanish wines, especially in the sparkling wines of Cava. This however is a delicious example of the grape as the main focus of a non-bubbly wine, one of the few of this grape we've encountered. For more than 6 centuries the Bohigas family has been growing vines and managing their own vineyards with over 150 hectares. The vineyards a very well situated to grow white varieties as they get lots of sunshine but the evenings are very cool retaining the freshness in the wines. Fans of Sauvignon Blanc or Italian white wines will definitely find a lot
to like in this wine!

Domaine Duffour Blanc
Côtes de Gascogne, France, 2019
This blend of Colombard, Gros Manseng, and Ugni Blanc from the Gascogne region has become a customer favorite, and understandably so. In the glass, the Domaine Duffour is a pale lemon-yellow color with a crisp, clean appearance and pleasantly round viscosity for a white wine. On the nose and palate, there are immediate fresh notes of Key lime pie, lemon rind, citrus grove, crushed white fruit, stone fruit and chalky minerals. Cotes de Gascogne is the IGP title for wines that are produced in an area centered on the Gers administrative department of South-West France. The countryside here is verdant, and the low rolling terrain is interspersed with small, picturesque villages. All in all, this is well suited to viticulture, as the soils and climate work together across the area to create an optimal environment for vineyards.

Castellano Pinot Grigio
Venezie, Italy, 2020
If there were a dictionary entry for the phrase ‘well made Pinot Grigio’ it would be a picture of a bottle of Castellano. While Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are wines made of the same grape, there are definite stylistic differences. The style in which Pinot Grigio is typically made is so distinctive that Gris and Grigio are often treated as different varieties, even though they have identical DNA. The Italian Grigio style, successfully adopted in the US and to a lesser extent Australia, is achieved by harvesting the grapes relatively early. This helps retain the naturally high acidity of the grape, and stainless steel fermentation maintains a freshness and liveliness. Castellano is produced in the northern region of Veneto in Cazzano di Tramigia, where wines have been produced since the 12th century. Clean yellow in the glass with lime green hints, it has excellent body and structure for its price. The flavor is fresh, with long lasting notes of apple and citrus fruits. A patio pounder for sure, but will also hold up to a nice cajun catfish filet, or a lemon kale salad
with garlic and parmesan.

Terre Brûleé ‘Le Blanc’ Chenin Blanc
Swartland, South Africa, 2021
Vincent Carême is a well-respected winemaker through his namesake Domaine in France’s Loire Valley, but he has some long history with South Africa’s wine country as well. His wife and partner Tania is from South Africa, and he worked 4 harvests in the country before opening his own domain in France in 1999. Both his home region in the Loire Valley and South Africa excel in production of wines from Chenin Blanc, or Steen as sometimes known in South Africa. The name of this project is a reference to the soil and terroir – Swartland means ‘black land’ in Dutch, and Terre Brûlée translates to ‘scorched earth’. The difference in hemispheres between France and South Africa allow Vincent to have wine projects ongoing throughout the full year. The aroma, flavor and texture of this wine presents well above its modest price! Ripe stone fruits, golden delicious apple, lime, and honeysuckle are balanced by vibrant acidity and an undercurrent of saline minerality, perhaps from ever present cooling Atlantic breezes.

Joseph Cattin 'Sauvage' Pinot Blanc
Alsace, France, 2019
The 'Sauvage' series of wines from Joseph Cattin is a new line that are all certified organic and certified vegan. Made following minimal intervention winemaking, this is a very pure, refined expression of Pinot Blanc. Pinot Blanc is a white mutation of the Pinot Noir grape, and often drinks similar to Chardonnay with medium to full body and good acidity. Cattin's version starts with a pretty nose of white flowers, citrus, peach and fresh grass. The palate has medium weight with some nice texture balanced by bright acidity, and lots of fresh fruit flavors of pear, lemon and orchard fruits with nice minerality framing the finish. This is great as an aperitif or with salads, but it can hold its own with charcuterie or rich bisques or chowders.

Evolution Chardonnay
Willamette Valley, Oregon, 2019
The good folks at Evolution love Chardonnay, and they love the quality of their Chardonnay fruit enough that they make sure to use no oak, and ferment and age in stainless steel to preserve the essential character of Chardonnay. Nicely floral and fruit-driven, it is definitely not buttery, and has a crisp, lively finish. The tasty mix of toasted almonds, crisp apple and light citrus make it great with everything from fried chicken to caesar salads. Evolution is a second label for Sokol Blosser Winery, one of our long time favorites from Oregon.

Ant Moore Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough, New Zealand, 2021
After 10 years making some of New Zealand’s most renowned Sauvignon Blancs for other wineries, winemaker Ant Moore started his own namesake Estate winery. Blended from three estate vineyards, the wine spends a short amount of time on the lees in French oak. It has classic New Zealand aromatics of tropical fruits, lime citrus and hints of passionfruit. The palate has tropical island fruits, melon, guava, lemon, peach and passionfruit with Marlborough’s famous grassy freshness. For a Sauvignon Blanc this wine is very complex, yet soft and easy to drink with its variety of fruit accents emerging on the long clean finish.

Gorghi Tondi Grillo
Coste a Preola, Sicily, Italy, 2020
This certified organic wine is made of 100% Grillo, from vineyards named Coste a Preola on the western side of Sicily near the Mediterranean Sea. Grillo is a grape associated with Sicily, with some believing it indigenous, while others believe it migrated from the region of Puglia many centuries ago. The Gorghi Tondi is an excellent introduction to the grape, with straw yellow color and greenish reflections. The nose is elegant and intense, with notes of passion fruit, mint, pineapple and white peach. On the palate it has an excellent balance, medium bodied, with more tropical fruits evened out by a orchard fruit tone of apple reminiscent of a Macon-Villages from Southern Burgundy. It is medium-bodied, rich and fragrant, with fresh acidity keeping the finish lithe and zesty. Excellent with New England Clam Chowder or a Yankee Lobster Roll, also could pair well with Chicken Pot Pie or creamy pasta dishes.

Borgo Moncalvo 'Ellipsis' Vino Bianco
Loazzolo DOC, Piedmont, Italy, 2019
This lovely Italian white is 100% Muscato (Muscat). Those of you who think that means this will be a sweet wine can just hold your horses for a mintue! While Muscato is the classic grape of famous dessert wines like Moscato d'Asti, it is not sweet all the time, and this is a wonderful dry example, which is not sweet in the least bit. Certified organic, it is a vibrantly aromatic wine with loads of aromas of honeysuckle, lychee and orange blossom. The wine's vibrant nose is aided by a method called Vinooxygen, patented by the Elegir family who own the winery. Their method allows them to carry out the full vinification without exposing the juice to oxygen. Their process gives them absolute control of the oxygen throughout, which allows them to keep intense aromatics, and can reduce sulfites up to 70%, without compromising the longevity of the wine. Juicy flavors of stone fruit, honeydew, kiwi and mint deliver a juicy, refreshing palate and come off almost weightless on the long, spicy finish. This wine would work with a variety of foods, from basil pesto pork chops to steamed mussels in Thai red curry, or paprika chicken with a creamy feta sauce.

Albert Mann Auxerrois Vieille Vignes
Alsace, France, 2018
This beautiful Alsatian wine is 100% Auxerrois farmed Organically and Biodynamically from 45+ year old vines on gravel and clay-limestone soils. Auxerrois (or Pinot Auxerrois) is a white wine grape grown fairly extensively in Alsace, and is blended in the background of more Alsatian wines than one might realize. It shines most brightly out of the North portion of Alsace, where the cooler climate helps this low-acid variety acheive a good level of freshness. The Albert Mann winery follows minimal intervention winemaking, and utilize native yeast fermentation. The resulting with is fresh and bright, with ripe pear, pineapple and golden plum aromas, complimented by hints of spices and honey. The palate is dense and layered, with a suave, long finish, just the type of white wine that I can really enjoy in winter weather. More of those golden orchard and tropical fruit flavors abound, with background hints of balsamic, menthol and nutmeg. This wine is great with rich foods, from something like Celery Root Veloute to Halibut Meuniere to Cheese Fondue.

Dundee Hills, Oregon, 2021
This is the seventh consecutive vintage we've worked with this great Oregon wine. It is a classic dry Rosé made 100% from estate grown Pinot Noir. The 2021 has a slightly lighter ruby color, and a touch less weight than the 2029, making it crisper and zestier. It exhibits notes of peach and strawberry on the nose followed by hints of melon, rose petal, and fresh tropical fruits. The palate is bright and crisp with refreshing berry, melon, golden raspberry, and bergamot notes, leading to clean acidity on the finish. Fabre Montmayou Rosé
Mendoza, Argentina, 2020
his Argentine Rosé is 100% Malbec, but is made in a very French style. Owner and diretor Hervé Fabre was born in Bordeaux, and arrived in Argentina in the early 1990s looking for opportunities to invest in vineyards and start a winery. He was amongst the early winemakers who saw the potential of Malbec out of Argentina, and he purchesed many old vine, high elevation vineyards focused on Malbec. His rose has a bright copper color, and fresh fruit aromas of strawberries and raspberries with citrus hints. A crist, well-balanced wine, it has the depth and texture to drink on its own in the sunshine, but also the complexity ot match up with char-grilled fish or tuna empanadas.

Chateau d'Oupia Rosé
Minervois, France, 2020
For many, a Rosé wine is something to just enjoy in Summer, but for some of us we love these complex wines year-round. There are certain styles that seem to fit the cooler weather better though, and Chateau d'Oupia's 2020 is one of those beauties. Their Minervois Tradition is 60% Carignan (from vineyards up to 100 years old), 30% Syrah and 10% Grenache. It is aromatic, full and densely colored, with a long finish of dark fruits. Cherry and wild berry accents, with hints of melon, flow through a plump and robust mouthfeel. Just a touch of tannins lead to a crisp, fully dry finish. Rosé like this one can actually age very gracefully for 5-7 years, and we have no doubt that this is drinking even better now that when it was released last Spring.

M*A*N Family Wines Syrah
Coastal Region, South Africa, 2019
MAN Family Wines was started by three friends with deep family histories in South African viticulture. They wanted a project making the kind of wines they liked to drink. They weren't looking for rockstar bottles that cost a fortune, they were wine geeks in need of everyday wines. So they started making them! They took the first initial from each of their wive's names, and MAN Family Wines was born. Their Syrah comes from bush-vine and trellised vineyards in the Agter-Paarl region. It was hand harvested, fermented in stainless steel, and then matured for 12 months in older American oak barrels. It has aromas of dark berry, cured meats, and star anise. The palate has mouth-filling blackcurrant and plum flavors with finely integrated tannins. Small additions of Mourvèdre and Grenache add soft red fruit and fine spice characters. This layered, medium bodied Syrah will complement slow-cooked stews, curry and any type of barbeque.

Domaine St. George Cabernet Sauvignon
California, 2018
One wine that we seem to always be on the hunt for is the great, everyday California Cab, one that balances affordability and quality, yet still tasting truly of Cabernet Sauvignon and not just like ‘red wine’. Well, we found a definite winner here with the Domaine St. George! Based primarily on fruit from Sonoma County, it over-delivers with concentration and finesse. Ripe black cherry and cedar aromas combine on the nose, with a touch of vanilla oak in the background. It is richly flavored with black currant and black cherry accents, with mild tones of smoke and mint. It is velvety and soft yet intense on the palate, with lingering berry flavors.

Domaine Mas Barrau Cabernet Franc
Pays du Gard IGP, France 2018
This is a wonderful introduction to Caberent Franc. Most famous as one of the three main grapes of Bordeaux, and most highly regarded as its own varietal in Loire appellations like Chinon and Saumur, Cabernet Franc likely originates from Southwest France, near the Spanish border. This certified organic example is made by Guillaume Letang in the Gard region of France on the Mediterranean coast. Letang looked specifically for vines which are south facing, to receive the most sunlight and ripeness, to keep the wine textured and luxurious. The terroir is full of limestone which adds light but brisk acidity. The nose has a wild ‘after the rain’, earth perfume, and the palate is very long and layered with dark bramble fruit, slight herbacious notes, and a touch of sweet prune on the finish. Great with juicy lamb shanks, or any rich tomato based dish laced with roasted garlic and pepper.

La Maialina 'Gertrude' Red Blend
Tuscany, Italy, 2018
45% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot
Gertrude has been our best selling Italian Red for at least 3 years now. This blend is what we might call a 'Baby' Super-Tuscan. The term Super-Tuscan was coined by journalists in the 1970’s to describe a handful of wines from Tuscany that were using non-traditional grapes. Due to the grapes used, these wines could only be called ‘Table Wines’ according to Italian wine laws, although their quality was far above normal table wine levels. The classic Super-Tuscans now cost hundreds of dollars a bottle, which is why we call this charming affordable blend a 'Baby' Super-Tuscan. This wine offers remarkable value for the complex flavors it delivers. A bright acidity supports robust flavors of grilled meat, fennel, spice, black cherry, dark chocolate and
tobacco into a satisfying, lengthy finish.

Burgo Viejo Crianza
Rioja, Spain, 2018
Six families of farmers founded Bodegas Burgo Viejo in 1987 (with the next generation coming on-board, it is now sixteen families working together). Burgo Viejo´s main asset has always been their exquisite winemaking process, using grapes collected from its own vineyards, going back to the times when they were just a wine cellar selling in bulk (they started as a cooperative in the 1950's). Their Crianza is one of the best values out of Spain. Crianza is the first step in the specific aging requirements of Rioja wines – to be a Crianza a wine must spend at least one year in oak, and then at least 6 months in the bottle before being released. The Burgo Viejo has smoke-accented cherry, black currant and coconut aromas sharpened by a suggestion of cracked pepper that adds spicy lift. It is plush and broad in the mouth, offering dark fruit liqueur and oak spice flavors that finish creamy and appealingly ripe, with round tannins. This is fresh and persistent wine, and an excellent introduction to Rioja.

Le Dix de Saint Damien
Vin de France, 2020
This is a unique, delicious wine that we love working with when we can, which is usually just once a year in small amounts, and they go quickly. We're just now offering it out, and we are already working on getting more! While this wine was made in France’s Rhone Valley, it only carries the ‘Vin de France’ designation as it is made from too lesser known (and totally cool) hybrid grapes that are not recognized within the Rhone Valley wine laws. It is 50% Marselan, a red wine grape that is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, first bred in 1961. The other 50% is Caladoc, a red wine grape crossing of Grenache and Malbec, first bred in 1958. Overall, it is a juicy, dark fruited, herbal and earthy effort that’s as easy drinking as they come. The nose wafts aromas of blackberry and sweet spice, followed by a palate of dark cassis tones, with black raspberry, framboise and black plum accents. It finishes with very mildy dusty tannins and some good minerality, giving nice complexity. This rides a perfect balance between a wine to sip all on its own, and as a great foil for anything thing you might Barbeque!

Domaine du Fournier Côtes du Rhône Villages Signargues
Rhone Valley, France, 2016
In the classification of Rhone Valley wines, the Villages level stils between the generic Côtes du Rhône title and location-specific cru wines such as Gigondas or Chateauneuf-du-Pape. This beauty from Domaine du Fournier is a single vineyard wine coming out of the Signargues region in the far south of the Rhone Valley. It is predominently Syrah, at 70%, with 30% Grenache making up the rest of the blend. It's a muscular, full-bodied Rhone wine perfect for the winter's chill. Blackberry and plum flavors are densely concentrated, along with warming accents of dried sage and mint framed by soft, plush tannins. The finish is moderately long, with a nice touch of cinnamon and bramble at the end. Try this with Swiss Chard sauteed with Dried Apricots and Pine Nuts, or for the meat eaters search out a nice Venison Loin, and do seared medallions with Blackberry Sauce.

It is a pure and genuine expression of California Pinot Noir, without the use of additional varietals. The cool climate of California's coastline aids in the growth of superb Pinot Noir, and Contour is a representation of its outstanding growing regions. They select the best fruit from the finest appellations throughout California, providing tremendous depth, balance, and quality. Steindorfer 'Apetion Rouge'
Burgenland, Austria, 2019
Austrian reds can have a reputation of being austere, but this ripe, robust blend disputes that idea immediately! The father/son team of Ernst and Roland Steindorfer craft this wine from their nicely ripe Burgenland plots of Blaufränkisch (40%), St. Laurent and Zweigelt (30% each). Aging for 17 months in 2nd and 3rd use French oak barriques pulls the wine together nicely. In the balanced 2019 vintage, this has plenty of ripe cherry and black plum fruit, with a really satisfying sense of weight on the palate and a firm – but still smooth – finish that invites both solo sipping and matching up to robust foods. Wonderfully aromatic notes of wild blueberry rise from the glass, with a slight note of cinnamon. While lovely with more complex fare like Duck Confit or classic Wiener Schnitzel with Red Cabbage, this wine could also be your new favorite pairing to a classic American Meatlof.
