Oval Park Grille
De Maison Selections Dinner
Thursday, February 9th
Reception at 6:30
Dinner at 7:00
Our friends at Oval Park Grille have planned a fantastic February wine dinner featuring wines imported
into the US by Chapel Hill's own De Maison Selections. Founded by André Tamers in 1996,
De Maison Selections is an importing company that specializes in unique, high-quality, boutique wines,
ciders and spirits from Spain and France. Today's focus for De Maison Selections continues their tradition
of seeking out unique producers from Spain and France. The current majority of our portfolio is geared
toward Spain. Spain continues to be a great wine frontier, constantly offering wonderful surprises.
While De Maison does not a rigid dogma, they do believe that in the search for excellence there needs
to always be respect for the environment, and they wineries they represent all follow viticultural practices
in accord with responsible, sustainable agriculture.
We will be joined for the dinner by André Tamers, the company founder, who will speak directly to
the wines presented. A French and American citizen with extensive experience on all levels of the wine
trade, André started in the business in 1985 as buyer at a restaurant with a wine list of 150 selections.
Having lived extensively in France, he decided to move to Spain for a change. In Spain he lived in
Barcelona where he studied painting at the well-known Escola Eina. During this sabbatical period, he
traveled extensively throughout the viticulture regions of Europe allowing him to nurture contacts in the winemaking world. André's fluency in both French and Spanish has been influential in discovering
little-known producers. Chef Todd Whitney has planned a gorgeous menu, and André is currently hard
at work picking out the absolute best pairings from his portfolio. We've got the menu listed below, and just added Andre's wine choices. We hope you can join us!

Mas de Daumas Gassac Wine Dinner
Tuesday, February 28th
7:00 PM
Considered by many to be the "Grand Cru of the Languedoc", Mas de Daumas Gassac makes perhaps the highest quality wines found in France's Mediterranean coast. Since the 1970s the Guibert family has farmed this portion of the Gassac Valley with great pride, respect and skill. They were crucial in showing that high quality wines could be made in an area better known for making vast quantities of plonk. They were stewards of the land, and brought the concepts of organic and bio-dynamic agriculture to many farmers in the Languedoc. And most of all, they grew amazing fruit and crafted delicious, elegant wines. We will be joined for this tasting by two good friends - Thomas Meunier, the owner of Authentique Vin who is the importer for the wines, and Virgile Roussea, the representative for Mas de Daumas Gassac in the United States. Many of you may remember Virgile from his days as wine buyer at A Southern Season a few years back, and hopefully we can make this a nice homecoming! Please come join us for some of France's most unique and delicious wines!
