We have planned a wonderful way for you to ease back into normal life after a holiday long weekend. We are going to host our dear friend Greg Pfaender from Authentique Vin for a one of a kind tasting. Many of you know that Authentique Vin is one of our favorite importers of French wine, but they have now delved into the world of Vermouth! They just began offering the Distiloire 'Douce Folie' Blanc & Rouge Vermouths, and they are delicious. Founded in 2017, Distiloire is a boutique distillery based in the mid of the National Nature Reserve of the Grand-Lieu Lake at the door of Nantes in the Loire Valley. Their passion is focused on producing artisanal Vermouths and spirits made from certified Organic and Biodynamic wines, herbs and botanicals from the surrounding area, associated with the most unique spices from around the world. Vermouths are classified as ABV (Apéritif à Base de Vin or Wine based apéritif) therefore they are not spirits but are made from wine fortified with a spirit that is then flavored with an infusion of plants, peel, seeds, leaves or flowers. The base wine comes from a leader of natural wine in the name of Benoît Landron, nephew of our friend Jo Landron, whose Biodynamic estate is located in the eastern part of the Muscadet. The spirits are produced in site, using the most ancient methods, in their 100 years-old traditional coper stills Alembic over naked flames. All the herbs and botanicals are sourced and selected locally through their own production and from local organic partners.
Tasting these vermouths would be a great event in and of itself, but we are going to take it up a notch. We mentioned earlier Jo Landron, one of our favorite Loire winemakers, whose nephew uses Jo's winery to make the base wine for these vermouths. Jo also happens to make some fantastic Sparkling Wines in his Atmospheres Brut and Atmospheres Rosé. One of the biggest trends in mixed drinks over the last few years has been the explosion of Spritz drinks, which are usually Sparkling Wine blended with either vermouth or an apéritif, like the traditional Aperol Spritz. We are going to also be offering the Atmosphere bubbles that night, and we will introduce you to the 'Landron Spritz', soon to be your favorite new libation. We'll taste all the component parts, and then sample the Atmospheres Brut with the Blanc Vermouth, and the Atmospheres Rosé with the Rouge Vermouth. This will be a unique tasting, so mark you calendars now!
