White Wines for Spring

As the weather warms up, it's time to give your wine collection a seasonal refresh. Say goodbye to heavy winter wines and hello to bright, vibrant, and downright tasty pours that perfectly capture the essence of spring. Look for wines with a zing of acidity to complement those springtime dishes. Wine with vibrant aromas of fresh flowers and ripe fruits can match the blooms around you, and work well with our changes in tastes for food, matching many of the lighter, fresher dishes many of us turn to in warmer times. Best of all, don't forget how tasty these types of wines can be sitting out on a patio or a balcony, making the most of the cooler evenings before it gets too hot. We've worked with out good friend Jen Salomé of the Haw River Wine Man to select four of our favorites for this change of seasons. We'll start with a classic in an amazing value Pinot Grigio that is super easy-going. Next we'll venture to Spain and have a lovely Verdejo from Rueda, with lots of citrus and floral notes, and hints of grass and fennel. Following that, we'll head off to the island of Sardegna (Sardinia), for a fuller bodied Mediterranean Vermentino, with loads of apple flavors and teases of sea spray and almonds. Finally we'll island hop over to Sicily, and have one of their most famous white wines Grillo, and wonderful companion to any seafood you want to match up alongside. While the downtown areas of Durham and Chapel Hill are overloaded with families of graduating seniors, avoid the crowds and come taste some delightful white wines with us!
