Sparkling Wines

Perelada Brut Reserva Cava
Penedes, Spain, NV
An excellent Cava, this wine has a very pale straw yellow color with elegant, fine bubbles. On the nose, typical varietal aromas of citrus and almond flower are prominent. A pleasant, fresh palate of apricot, apple, lemon and pear with a mild, creamy texture, leads to a soft, toasty finish. This is a traditional blend of Cava grapes, with 40% Xarel-lo, 30% Macabeau, and 30% Parellada. Wine has been made at the Castillo Perelada since the Middle Ages, as shown in several documents and parchments from the period to be found in their library.

Champagne Moutard Brut Réserve
Côte des Bar, Champagne, France, NV
The families of Champagne Moutard have been living in the village of Buxeuil since the mid 17th century, and have a long tradition of both grape growing and wine production. Located in the Côte des Bar, the vineyard soils are made up of clay and limestone, both of which lead to rich, fruity aromas and good minerality. Non-vintage wines such as the Brut Réserve are all cellar-aged for at least three years. Even though not labelled as a ‘Blanc de Blancs’, this wine is 100% Chardonnay. Apple blossom and spice notes are underscored by ripe green melon, honey, pastry dough and smoke details in this creamy Champagne. Lively acidity firms the mouthwatering finish. While seafoods like oysters, scallops, sushi and sashimi are the ultimate classic pairing to a Champagne this style, don’t miss out on matching it up with some crispy fried chicken, or a creamy potato soup with crusty bread.

White Wines

Mànnara Pinot Grigio
Sicily, Italy, 2023
This is a smooth, dry white from Western Sicily, where the long hours of hot sun lend a little extra body to a variety more familiar from the Veneto region further north. In spite of the southern heat, the alcohol by volume is kept to a modest 11.5%, making this a great choice for parties and other get-togethers where quantity is required as well as quality, and its peachy, citrusy character, with a snappy, crisp finish, will please a discerning crowd. This wine pairs great with a lot of traditional Sicilian foods, like pasta in Sicilian Pesto made with almonds, tomatoes, basil, garlic and Pecorino cheese, or Baked Sardines stuffed with pine nuts, raisins and breadcrumbs.

Bohigas 'X' Xarel-lo
Catalunya, Spain, 2023
The wine has aromas and flavors of bright lemon, green apple, fresh herbs and spices. It is light-bodied with apple undertones and a fruity finish. The grape Xarel-lo is not unknown to us wine geeks, but we are much more accustomed to seeing it as a background element in blended Spanish wines, especially in the sparkling wines of Cava. This however is a delicious example of the grape as the main focus of a non-bubbly wine, one of the few of this grape we've encountered. For more than 6 centuries the Bohigas family has been growing vines and managing their own vineyards with over 150 hectares. The vineyards a very well situated to grow white varieties as they get lots of sunshine but the evenings are very cool retaining the freshness in the wines. Fans of Sauvignon Blanc or Italian white wines should check this out!

The Curator White Blend
Swartland, South Africa, 2024
This tasty blend from South Africa is 80% Chenin Blanc, 10% Chardonnay, and 10% Viognier. Winemaker Adi Badenhorst says "There is so much high quality fruit in the Swartland that ends up unrecognizable in Bag-in-Box blends. I felt that by adding a little more care to the vinification of these grapes, while maintaining cost efficiency in production, we could produce wines that would be sure to turn a few heads for a very reasonable sum of money." He definitely delivers on that idea! Chenin Blanc is the backbone and structure of this blend. The Chardonnay was naturally fermented and took a long time to complete fermentation, resulting in great texture and aromas of dried peaches and apricots and ripe citrus. The Viognier, from one of Badenhorsts favorite growers and vineyards, completes the Swartland canvas and brings some spice and palate length to the wine. Aromas of lemon zest, green tropical fruits and spices lead to a palate of ripe, honeyed stonefruit and melon. It is a rich wine, but classically dry on the finish.

Carlos Serres Viura-Tempranillo Blanco
Rioja, Spain, 2023
This great Spanish white is made mostly of Viura, the classic white grape of Rioja which drinks somewhat similar to Sauvignon Blanc, along with Tempranillo Blanco, a natural mutation of the red Tempranillo grape first found in 1988 and exclusive to the Rioja region. It has a bright yellow color, with aromas of apple and pineapple with subtle white floral characters. Green apple, pear, mint and almond flavors mingle through the round mouthfeel, while firm acidity keeps the fleshy texture balanced through the clean, stony finish.

Arona Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough, New Zealand, 2024
Arona Sauvignon Blanc is one of our favorite examples of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and shows why this category has been so very popular for such a long time. It is pungent, with grassy and fresh-grated ginger notes on a mouthwatering frame. Passion fruit, green apple, mango and orange blossom flavors are juicy on the palate, and the finish is succulent and long. The grapes are grown in the Waverley Vineyard in the Awatere Valley, a region known for producing wines with a fresh, mineral accent. Try this with Baked Flounder with Mint, Tomato and Feta Cheese, or a Chopped Thai Chicken Salad with Spicy Peanut Dressing.

Berger Grüner Veltliner - Liter Bottles
Austria, 2024
This was the very first Grüner Veltliner I ever tasted, and I still think there is no better introduction to this compelling grape. It is a fresh and expressive wine, with citrus, floral and mineral flavors that linger in the mouth. It practically invites you to have a second glass.  This wine is made by a father and son team, working 14 hectares of land. They use cultured yeasts to get a slow fermentation, work all in stainless steel, and were amongst the earliest Austrian wineries to utilize technology for controlling fermentation temperatures in the late 1980s. It has wonderful flavors of ripe peach, almond, lime and smoke. There is a good backbone of richness, with a long, almost creamy finish that has great touches of pepper and mineral.

Eden Rift 'Valliant' Chardonnay
Central Coast, California, 2019
Eden Rift is one of the oldest continually operating wine estates in the United States, dating back to the late 1800s. Their Valliant Chardonnay is made of grapes from multiple blocks at Eden Rift, all hand-harvested and whole-cluster pressed. It is fermented in French oak barrels and aged 11 month sur-lie. This Chardonnay is packed with Old World nuances, a very Burgundian style for California. The nose has bright notes of fresh picked yellow fruits and beautiful tropical accents. On the palate, it is rich in texture mid-palate but balanced with lively acidity.

Brooks Pinot Blanc
Willamette Valley, Oregon, 2024
If you visit the Willamette Valley in Oregon, we strongly recommend spending an afternoon tasting and sipping on the deck at Brooks Winery. That is where we first enjoyed this delightful Pinot Blanc, and excellent Oregon take on an Alsatian style wine. The 2024 growing season began with an early bud break, followed by warm and dry weather. Consistent sunshine throughout the summer allowed for optimal hang time, leading to a vintage with excellent concentration. Highly aromatic and delicious, this is a crowd pleasing wine, great for barbecues and beaches. It has loads of tropical and tree fruits, like apple, pear, peach, and nectarine, with accents of honeysuckle, camomile, cherry blossom, and a long finish. Great acidity makes this a top notch food wine, especially anything with crab. This is a wonderful selection to match the transition of Summer to Fall!

Chapoutier 'La Bernadine' Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc
Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone Valley, France, 2021
Maison Chapoutier has been a leader of Rhone Valley wines for over 200 years, and in the last half century they have been leaders in organic and biodynamic agriculture in this esteemed region. Their 2021 Chateauneuf Blanc is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Clairette, and Roussanne.
“The 2021 Chateauneuf Du Pape La Bernardine Blanc showed brilliantly, with a rocking nose of ripe white peach, charcoal, flowers, and spice that gives way to a richer, medium to full-bodied white with bright acidity and a great finish. It's another brilliant white in the vintage”

Rosé Wines

La Plage Rosé du Var
Vin de Pays du Var, France, 2024
La Plage is The Beach, and this classic Provence Rosé will have you dreaming of dipping your toes into the Mediterranean. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Carignan and Merlot, it is utterly delicious and completely Provençal. Established in Vidauban in 1922, the Mâitres Vignerons de la Vidaubanaise today control 600 hectares of vines in the heart of the Côtes de Provence. Located in the limestone foothills of the historic Maures massif in the southern Var, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Alps, the terroir has the perfect climate for producing terrific rosé. The nose has inviting aromas of ripe cherries and raspberries, and a refreshing minerality like a sea breeze. On the palate, it has loads of fresh watermelon and cherry accents, with just a touch of briny salinity on the finish. This wine is just waiting for a Nicoise salad or traditional Bouillabaisse to match with.

San Lorenzo 'Sirio' Rosé
Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, Italy, 2024
This may be the ultimate pink wine for cooler weather, with a vibrant dark ruby color that is just shy of being full on red wine. Cerasuolo means ‘Cherry’ in Italian, and the name has for centuries applied to this style of rosato out of the heel of the boot of Italy, and the color, aromas and flavors of the wine all show why! Cerasuolo is a deeply colored rosé wine that is appropriate year-round. This one comes from the San Lorenzo winery located in the province of Teramo. Made from 100% Montepulciano grapes. It features a fruity, floral aroma with notes of cherry and strawberry, a soft, fresh, and persistent taste with flavors of those same red fruits with a nice texture, and is ideal with appetizers, white meats, and light cheeses.

Red Wines

Bulletin Place Shiraz
South Eastern Australia, 2022
We’ve recently discovered the fantastic value that is Bulletin Place Shiraz and it quickly became our ‘go-to’, affordable Australian Shiraz. South Eastern Australia, rather than being classified as a wine region in the traditional sense, is officially classified as a ‘viticultural super zone.’ It measures some 1,250 miles and reaches from the Pacific coast in Queensland to the Indian Ocean. The sheer scale of this zone and the diversity of its climates, zones, and latitudes make it a virtual spice market for winemakers to choose from when selecting their vineyards and their grapes. This Shiraz has a deep red color with purple hues, and aromas of mixed berries and spice standing out alongside hints of mint and mocha. The palate is rich and lush, with dark cherries, ripe plum, boysenberry, and a hint of baking spice and chocolate. Juicy acidity is balanced with refined tannin to provide length and a rewarding finish.

MAN Family Wines Merlot
Cape Coast, South Africa, 2022
MAN Family Wines was started by three friends with deep family histories in South African viticulture. They wanted a project making the kind of wines they liked to drink. They weren't looking for rockstar bottles that cost a fortune, they were wine geeks in need of everyday wines. So they started making them! Their Merlot comes from sustainable, dry farmed vineyards in the Agter-Paarl region. It was hand harvested, fermented in stainless steel, and then matured for 12 months in older American oak barrels. It has aromas of plum and cherry, with accents of tobacco spices and earthy notes. The palate has distinctive plum and cherry flavors with finely integrated tannins. Small additions of Petite Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon add soft red fruit and fine spice characters. This layered, medium bodied Merlot will complement slow-cooked stews, curry,
and any type of barbecue.

Evolution 'Big Time Red'
America, 2022
Thirteen years after the debut of their wildly popular Evolution White, Sokol Blosser winery introduced its sibling wine Evolution 'Big Time Red' Blend. Evolution Red is a complex, red wine created from an unexpected blend of varietals. The 2022 is made of 54% Montepulciano, 34% Syrah, 3% Pinot Noir, 2% Malbec, and then just a touch of the Evolution White is blended in to enhance the aromatics and energy of the wine. It is a blend of fruit from Oregon, Washington and California, and therefore can only be labeled as American. This is a soft and balanced wine with notes of cherry and plum pie filling, black cherry, red currants and cloves. Aromatic and unique, it has a robust velvety texture across the palate, and is balanced with enough acidity to make it food friendly. Try Evolution Red with all kinds of smoked meats, ribs, stews, turkeys and robust gourmet pizzas!

Coelus Tempranillo Joven
Rioja, Spain, 2023
‘Joven’ means young in Spanish, and Joven wines are usually done without any oak, and are made in a ripe, fresh style for everyday enjoyment. The Tempranillo from Coelus is a prime example, and is a perfect Spanish table red for immediate enjoyment. It is powerful on the nose with a great variety of red fruits with a touch of forest floor and an exotic hint of violets coming through. The palate is soft and supple, with fresh accents of sweet black cherry, damson plum and blackcurrant. Vanilla and juicy wild berry fruits give way on the finish to more savory notes of baking spices and leather. This would be a wonderful companion to Chubby’s Chorizo Tacos or Quesadillas, but is also light enough that it could work with a hearty Cod dish with tomatoes and spicy peppers.

Herencia ‘Trabajo’ Cabernet Sauvignon
Valle de Uco, Argentina, 2022
Bodega Polo produces the Herencia Cabernet from the renowned Uco Valley in Mendoza. Herencia mean ‘inheriting’, and is used to showcase the Polo family’s dedication to their land and history. A bright garnet in color, this Cabernet explodes with redolent blackberries and blueberries. Juicy yet elegant, the wine has a touch of anise, vanilla, herbs and pepper. It is very lightly oaked, so the fruit is front and center. It is a perfect warm weather Cab to enjoy with just a slight chill. Fantastic with any grilled foods, but lamb kabobs with chimichurri might be our favorite!

La Maialina 'Gertrude' Red Blend
Toscana IGT, Italy, 2022
45% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot
Gertrude has been our best selling Italian Red for at least 3 years now. This blend is what we might call a 'Baby' Super-Tuscan. The term Super-Tuscan was coined by journalists in the 1970’s to describe a handful of wines from Tuscany that were using non-traditional grapes. Due to the grapes used, these wines could only be called ‘Table Wines’ according to Italian wine laws, although their quality was far above normal table wine levels. This wine offers remarkable value for the complex flavors it delivers. A bright acidity supports robust flavors of grilled meat, fennel, spice, black cherry, dark chocolate and tobacco into a satisfying, lengthy finish.

Electric Bee Primitivo
Salento IGT, Italy, 2022
This is a fantastic example of Primitivo coming from Salento in Southern Italy. Primitivo is a bold, dark red, which probably arrived in Italy from Croatia where it is still grown under several tongue-twisting names, and it was also introduced into the United States in the early 19th Century under the name Zinfandel. Playful and expressive, this has loads of red plum, rhubarb, pomegranate fruit flavors with accents of rose and cedar. The area where this is grown is typically hot, with wines tending toward a heavier style, but this fresh example is actually very light on its feet, a welcome surprise. The lighter style of this makes it a red wine that really shines with a light chill on the temperature.  A classic pairing from where this was made is next to Pizza Rustica, which is topped with tomatoes, onions, capers, garlic and anchovies.

Château Grand Jean Bordeaux Supérieur
Bordeaux Supérieur, France, 2022
45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot.
Bordeaux is synonymous with greatness - and rules. They govern everything from which varieties can be planted and where to when grapes can be picked. Bordeaux’s young winemakers, however, are bending those rules to create more complex flavors in the glass. Sisters Sophie and Carole Dulon age some of this wine in American oak barrels, resulting in a bolder-flavored red. Château Grand Jean Bordeaux Supérieur epitomizes the region’s classic balance of fruit flavors and soft tannins, but with a smoother, more modern feel and spice notes from the wine’s oak aging. Bold red berry, cassis and red licorice scents lead to subtle, juicy flavors of crushed red berries, savory spices and cracked white pepper. There are noticable yet approachable tannins on the lengthy finish. Dark chocolate and grilled meats would make nice pairing partners.

Seghesio Old Vine Zinfandel
Sonoma County, California, 2022
It's often said that Zinfandel is the only truly American grape, and in many ways, the Seghesio family story is a true reflection of the American dream. The family of immigrants planted vines in Sonoma back in 1895, and they have persevered through prohibition, earthquakes, fires and droughts. Sustainability has become a central tenet of their farming and viticultural practices with the continued health of their vineyards and the next five generations always in mind.
"Like a briar patch in a glass, this Zin offers spirited raspberry and cherry flavors that take on underbrush, dried sage and white pepper flavors before finishing with zesty tannins"
