For our tasting over this holiday weekend, we’re returning to one of our favorite Summer themes while we still can. We’ve selected four wines that we think work great while relaxing outside, with or without some delicious grilled delicacies. We’ll sample a lovely Italian white that should be everyone’s poolside sipper. Next up is a great French blend that while lovely on it’s own, would really shine with grilled chicken and shrimp, or seared scallops wrapped in bacon. We will then taste a hearty Greek rosé, one with enough oomph to stand up to your go-to barbeque sauce, especially the Eastern Carolina style. Finally, we’ll delve into a nice hearty Spanish wine from Priorat, a wine that is perfect for some ribs or brisket. We hope you can join us for this heartfelt goodbye to Summer!

Wines from California's Central Coast

This weekend’s tasting will be an exploration of California’s Central Coast, an immense wine region that produces a huge variety of fantastic wines. The Central Coast AVA in California covers the long stretch of coastline from San Francisco Bay south to Santa Barbara, and reaches inland from the Pacific Ocean to the borders of the Central Valley. The climate and topography vary enormously across this immense region, making it impossible to generalize about winegrowing conditions. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are arguably the most important grapes planted in the region, grapes famous from France’s Rhone Valley have passionate champions in places, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc make up a sizable chunk of the wines produced here.
