2017 is almost done, but there is still time for us to have one last blast of a Saturday tasting.  With New Year's Eve being on Sunday, it is only natural that Saturday's theme will be Sparkling Wines, and we knew just who to turn to.  Our dear friend Laurence O. Vuelta (the one and only Dr. L.O.V.) represents Codorníu Winery, one of the first and most important producers of Spanish Cava.  But what is Cava?  Well, if you've ever rung in the New Year sipping a sparkling wine that cost under $20, it was most likely either Prosecco or Cava.  Cava are the delicious sparkling wines made in the the Northeast corner of Spain, just below the French border.  They are made in the Champagne method, usually stay nice and dry, and are much more similar to true Champagne or California sparkling wines than to Prosecco.  Often made of grapes indigenous to that region, (such as Macabeo, Perelada, or Xarel-Lo), but with top houses like Codorníu you see more and more utilization of internationally grown grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.  We've picked a great line up of the wonderful bubbles from Codorníu to show, and Laurence will be here with all of his famous energy, enthusiasm and knowledge.  Forget New Year's Eve, the real party is here on Saturday!
