In 2022, Domaine Pfister became the latest member of the small but illustrious A.C.T. group - standing for Alsace Cru & Terrois, an association of 18 producers dedicated to creating "grands vins." The vigneron behind the Domaine is one of the most talented women in all of the wine world, Mélanie Pfister. Her wines are marked out by clarity and precision, reflecting vintage variation faithfully, and crafting bottles for those who love subtle wines. If you like wines marked above all by purity of fruit, elegance and character, this is the Domaine for you. Mélanie and her father farm 43 parcels totaling ten hectares (25 acres) of vines, twenty-five percent of which are Riesling. The family Domaine dates back to the late 1700s and was passed from generation to generation, with Mélanie as the eighth generation, and she officially took over from her father with the 2006 vintage. Leading up to that transfer, Mélanie did internships at some of the world's most renowned wineries - Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace, Méo-Camuzet in Burgundy, Château Cheval Blanc in Saint Emillion, and Château d'Yquem in Sauternes. She has taken this wealth of experience to reinvigorate her family's Domaine, including moving to entirely organic agriculture, receiving certification beginning in 2021. To guide us throug a taste of this rising star of Alsace will be Debra Lewis of Vintage '59, a very dear friend of Hope Valley Wine since before we even opened, and a wonderful ambassador of these fantastic wines.

Weekly Saturday Tasting

French Rosé from Authentique Vin

For this weekend's Saturday tasting, we are delving into the portfolio of another of our favorite French importers. Authentique Vin is owned by Thomas Meunier, and brings many of our favorite wineries and bottles to North Carolina. Making things even better, our friend (and Hope Valley Wine staff alumnus) Greg Pfaender is now representing Authentique Vin throughout the Southeast, and those who have tasted with Greg before know he brings not only great passion for the wines he pours, but fantastic knowledge as well. For those wine geeks who want to get all the dirt on the wines, Greg is always ready to go down that rabbit hole with you! It looks like the weather will definitely be appropriate for Rosé, so if you can get to the tasting without melting in the parking lot, we will have the perfect refreshment for you. While great Rosé are made around the world these days, we know many of our customers think the French do it best, and these selections fit the bill!
