Washington State Wines

This week last year, I was fortunate enough to have the chance to visit the Pacific Northwest, including several days in Washington State's Walla Walla Valley.  I have long enjoyed Washington wines, but that trip really made me a true fan.  When people talk about domestic wines, nearly all the focus is on California, and sometimes Oregon, but the wines of Washington State don't seem to get the attention they deserve. The arid areas east of the Cascade Mountains produce some beautiful wines with deep ripeness and elegant tannins.  The growing regions of Washington see more sunlight hours per day than most of Napa or Sonoma, but don't get as hot.  That allows for plenty of sunshine for photosynthesis, and leads to great balance in the best wines of the region.  And the growing regions of Washington are spread over a large geographical area, giving you many different micro climates where different grapes thrive, so you get just as good of a variety of grapes and wines as you do in California.  For this Saturday we will sample wines from three of the wineries which we highlights of my visit last year - Rôtie Cellars, Tamarack and Woodward Canyon.  I hope you can join us this Saturday and perhaps join me in my passion for the wines from this great state as well!
