South African Wines from
A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines

We are going to delve into some delicious South African wines, and we will do so by sampling five wines from one of our favorites from the region - A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines. A.A. Badenhorst was established in 2007 by cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst after purchasing and refurbishing a neglected 60-hectare wine farm on a granite outcrop of the Paarderberg Mountains. They aimed to revive traditional winemaking methods, and Adi, now the face of the winery, uses only traditional equipment including a horse plow and old cement tanks for fermentation. All wines are naturally fermented, dry farmed, vegan and IPW certified sustainable. We will start with two of their white wines, beginning with The Curator White Blend, followed by the Badenhorst Chenin Blanc, a fantastic example of the white wine most closely associated with South African wines. We love Rosé year round, so we will taste their delectable version which was based entirely on the Mourvèdre grape in 2023, and then we'll move on to their gorgeous 'Kalmoesfontein' Red Blend, based on Shiraz along with a number of other grapes. Finally we will finish with a really unique wine with the Badenhorst Caperitif, a vermouth styled aperitif based on fortified white wine steeped in 45 different herbs, fruits and spices, all of which are indigenous to the Cape. This should be a fun one!
