Spanish Summer Wines

Picture
Saturday, August 16th
1:00 - 3:00
For many of us, coming out of the pandemic meant a wonderful return to travel, and it seems like more people than ever started taking adventures to Europe and all over the globe. That trend has definitely continued this summer, as we continue to see guests who have just returned from this or that wonderful locale. But some folks just unfortunately can't make those kind of trips, and we don't want you feeling left out. We can't necessarily bring the sights and sounds of distant lands to you, but we can certainly bring some of the flavors! For this Saturday we'll take you on a little tour of Spain, featuring a number of our favorite Spanish wines to celebrate Summer. We'll start just outside of Barcelona with a great Cava, the traditional Spanish sparkling wines that always over-deliver for their prices. We'll then head inland, to the heart of the country, and taste a Verdejo from Rueda, an area just over 100 miles to the northwest of Madrid. When I visited Spain last year, Verdejo was far and away the most common white wine by the glass that I enjoyed all over the country. Next we'll venture up into the far northwest, along the Atlantic Coast, and dive into a great Albariño from Rías Baixas in Galicia. Over the last few years, Albariño has bloomed in popularity with American wine drinkers, and has become one of the best known Spanish whites among domestic drinkers. Time for some reds now, so we will head to the far eastern edges of the La Mancha region, specifically to Almansa southwest of Valencia, and we'll have a unique light-bodied red of Garnacha Tintorera and Syrah that is wonderful with a chill. Lastly, we'll wrap this trip up going back into the heart of the country, due north of Madrid, to the esteemed appelation of Ribera del Duero, and taste one of the region's signature Tempranillo that shines with grilled foods of all types. We hope you can join us!
