While it didn't feel much like Spring at the start of this week, it has been warming up nicely as the days have gone by, and you can tell we are entering into the most wonderful time of the year - Rosé season! Many of us do love a good rosé year round, but there is no denying that we sell 3 times as much during the warmer months. There is such an amazing assortment of rosé to choose from these days, in colors from the lightest onion-skin pink to the deepest dark coral red tones, light and crisp to heavier and round, and coming from every grape and wine region one can think of. While the freshest Rosé get a lot of attention, many people are unaware of how nicely some pink wine evolve with a touch of age. Not that we're suggesting trying to age a blush wine the way you would a tannic Bordeaux, but certainly an extra year or two in the bottle can bring out wonderful complexity and style. The 2023 Rosé are just barely starting to roll into the market, so we chose all pink wines from 2022 for this weekends tasting. We'll feature four favorites to introduce you to this weekend. We'll do a classic French Provençal Rosé that will have you dreaming of the Mediterranean Coast. We'll also taste a great Chilean Rosé that is a blend of Grenache, Pinot Noir, and Merlot from the Maule Valley, as well as a terrific Italian Rosato made of the traditional Tuscan grapes Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Ciliegiolo. Finally we'll have a robust Greek Rosé made of the indigneous Agiorgitiko grape, a wine that is really perfect for this change in the seasons. Hopefully the weather will work with us on Saturday, but even if it doesn't it will be sure to feel warm and sunny here as we dive into these delicious pink gems!
