I got the opportunity not too long ago to taste through the current offerings of one of my favorite American wineries - Sokol Blosser out of Dundee Hills, Oregon. I'm very happy to say they were every bit as good as I remembered. So we decided to focus this weekend on them and on Evolution, their wonderful second label. With vineyards planted in the early 70s, Sokol Blosser was one of the original forces in Oregon wines. They released their first vintage in 1977, and have been champions of Oregon Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris ever since. They are also great stewards of the land, and have been at the forefront of certified organic agriculture and sustainable business practices. In the late 90s they rolled out Evolution White, a wonderful white blend of 9 different grapes grown in Oregon and Washington; a few years down the road this was joined by more varieties including one of the best value Oregon Pinot Noirs we’ve worked with. The Evolution line is about approachability and easy drinking; the Sokol Blosser wines are about elegance and finesse. Together they offer something for everyone!
