Washington State Wines

When people talk about domestic wines, nearly all the focus is on California, and sometimes Oregon, but the wines of Washington State don't seem to get the attention they deserve. We here at Hope Valley Wine and Beverage love Washington wines, and are quick to try to spread our passion to all our customers. The arid areas east of the Cascade Mountains produces some beautiful wines with deep ripeness and elegant tannins. The growing regions of Washington see more sunlight hours per day than most of Napa or Sonoma, but don't get as hot. That allows for plenty of sunshine for photosynthesis, which in conjunction with the slightly cooler temperatures leads to great balance in the best wines of the region. This balanced ripeness shows especially well through Merlot, and we often find Washington Merlots to far outshine their California counterparts at the same price range. We'll taste one of those excellent Merlots on Saturday, as well as one of our long time favorites Cabernets from the region. While many of us first encountered Washington wines through their red selections, their community is producing more high quality white wines than ever before, and since we've still got a good bit of summer heat and humidity, we'll focus on one of their best Sauvignon Blanc in this tasting. Finally, continuing to show that basically every major wine region is producing excellent dry rosé these days, we've also thrown in a lovely Washington example of robust, zesty, dry pink wine!
