White Burgundy from Authentique Vin

Picture
Saturday, May 18th
1:00 - 3:00

This Saturday we are going to dip our toes into the world of White Burgundy. Easily one of the world's most famous regions for stunning white wines, the Burgundy region in France has captivated wine lover's imaginations and palates for centuries. There is a good argument to be made that Burgundy is truly where the French developed the idea of 'terroir', or that wine has a characteristic taste and flavor that speaks of where it was grown, that wine tastes of a place. This is a region that has some of the most renowned and sought after appellations in the wine world - Montrachet, Meursault, Corton-Charlemagne, and more. Unfortunately those incredible bottles are a bit out of our price range for a free tasting, but we've got some great selections for you at more affordable price points. The main grape for White Burgundy is Chardonnay, but few of these selections taste like their California cousins. It is surprising how often we've heard customers say "I don't like Chardonnay, but I LOVE White Burgundy". Maybe some of those comments were from not realizing what the grape was, and maybe some were tongue in cheek - we don't ask! We do realize that what they are actually saying is that they are not a fan of the buttery, rich classic California style of Chardonnay, and prefer the refined version that comes from these hallowed vineyards. We've got a nice fun selection of Chardonnays from different secitons of Burgundy, from far in the north and down in the southern edges. We'll have a Mâcon-Villages from the Mâconnais region, where you can find some of the best values in White Burgundy. Then we'll pop a bit further north to the Côtes de Beune, and area where you will find some of the most famout vineyards and villages. We'll go to the northern reaches of Burgundy to Chablis, and sample the crisp, flinty style of Chardonnay grown there. White Burgundy is not only Chardonnay, however, and we'll also taste an example of one of the other grapes allowed to be grown in the region with an Aligote, a grape that has a lighter, more citrusy accent. We can think of no one better to guide us on this journey than Greg Pfaender of Authentique Vin, our go-to French Importer. Greg's vast knowledge of the regions, farms, and people behind these wines will make it a tasting to remember!
