Special Tasting for California Wildfire Relief

Picture

Friday, October 27th
5:00 - 7:00

Everyone in the wine community has been worried about our friends in California dealing with the awful wildfires.  First and foremost, the biggest concern has been with their personal safety and security.  Many lives have been turned upside down, and our hearts are with those who are suffering.  We've also been concerned for our colleagues in the business, and any potential damage to their properties.  Our friend Mike Bostick of Epiphany Wines reached out to most of the Northern California wineries that he represents to check up on them.  Several of the wineries that Epiphany sells in North Carolina did unfortunately suffer damage of one level or another.  When asked how those from far away could best help, one resounding answer from all was "Sell our wines!".  The more they can sell of their wines already in the market, the more income they can amass to face the challenges ahead.  So Mike asked if we would join him in holding a tasting featuring a number of those wineries to help achieve that goal.  We said we would be happy to, but that it wasn't enough.  We will also donate 10% of the sales from the evening to the Napa Valley Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund.  These are some stellar wines for a great cause!

Weekly Saturday Tasting - Sherry

Picture

Saturday, October 28th
4:30 - 7:00

For this weekend's tasting we are delving into a category of wine that we have not featured at a tasting in quite some time - Sherry.  Thought of for too long by Americans as something your grandmother drank, Sherry wines are have a revival in the wine world, and it is well deserved to say the least.  Sherry has a long history of serving the likes of Christopher Columbus and Shakespeare, and has recently been getting renewed attention for its stellar value and food-friendly nature in the modern wine world.  Sherry is a fortified wine, produced in southwest Spain's "Sherry Triangle".  The soil in this region is chalky, limestone based, and provides the perfect conditions for growing the Palomino and Pedro Ximenez grapes that are used in the world's finest Sherries.  Our friend Erin Socha of The Country Vintner just returned from her honeymoon in the Jerez region, so inspired by the trip that she specifically requested that we explore Sherry wines for our scheduled tasting.  And with International Sherry Week coming up November 5th-11th, who are we to say no!  For those who want to get a headstart, you can find a great primer on Sherry to read about here:  https://www.wine-searcher.com/regions-jerez+-+xeres+-+sherry
