Jerry Riener grew up outside of San Francisco, but agriculture played a big part in his young life. Every summer he and his brothers traveled to Kansas and Nebraska where they helped out on their uncles' farms. After graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in organic chemistry, his past farm work drew him towards the Washington wine scene, where he became well known helping out at some major wineries, at the same time that he was graduating from the police academy and working full time as a police officer. After about four years of volunteering, Jerry decided to start his own wine venture, and used his connections to source fruit to produce just 375 cases of wine. He and his wife Jennifer, a reporter for the Seattle Times, got a spot at a tasting room and sold all 375 cases in one day. Several months later they released a 2005 vintage and it sold out within just a few days. For the 2022 vintage, their team produced 16 different wines between two labels: Guardian Cellars, named for Jerry's police background, and Newsprint, named for Jennifer's reporting profession. We're excited to welcome Jerry to the store this evening to taste several wines from both labels, and introduce you to some great Washington wine!

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, you know we want to bring the love this Saturday, and we know no better way to do that than by hosting the one and only Dr. LOV, Laurence O. Vuelta. Laurence has been a great friend of Hope Valley Wine since our very first days, and his tastings always pull a great crowd. He has a following not only because of his exuberant personality, and not only because of his extensive wine knowledge, but also because he always brings absolutely delicious wines to us! For this Saturday we are going to taste some of the newest wines of his portfolio with some brand new Spanish wines that only recently landed in North Carolina. Laurence worked hard finding just the right wines from just the right winemakers, and his labor of love has paid off big time, and these are quickly becoming some of our favorite Spanish wines.
