Saturday, February 1st
4:30 - 7:00

This Saturday's tasting will show some highlights of wines from California's Central Coast.  The Central Coast is a large encompassing American Viticultural Area (AVA) that extends from the South of San Francisco all the way to Santa Barbara.  It contains 40 AVAs including Paso Robles, Santa Cruz Mountains, Monterey, and Santa Barbara, and each of these sub-regions specializes in different types and expressions of wine.  While most famous for its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Rhone varietal wines, you can find pockets in the Central Coast where nearly any grape can flourish.  We will sample a Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Ynez Valley, a warmer area where Bordeaux varietals do very well.  Next we'll try two wines from one of our favorite Central Coast Wineries - Tablas Creek.  A joint venture between the Haas and Perrin families, respectively of Vineyard Brand Imports and Chateau Beaucastel in the France's Rhone Valley, Tablas Creek does fantastic Rhone style wines grown on clippings taken from the Perrin family's French vineyards.  We will sample their Patelin Blanc white blend, and their always delicious Rosé.  We'll then finish up with two red wines, starting with a Pinot Noir with a blend of fruit from the Santa Rita Hills AVA and Santa Maria Valley AVA.  The Sta Rita Hills region was featured in the blockbuster movie Sideways, and has since become one of the most famous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay regions on the West Coast.  Finally, we'll taste a delicious Rhone style red blend sourced from the Gabilan & Santa Cruz Mountains.  Our friend Mike Bostick of Epiphany wines will be on hand to guide us through, so we hope you can join us for this California vacation!
