We're going to have some fun with this weekend's tasting, as we sample a variety of wines that come in alternative size packaging.  We'll taste three wines that come in 1 Liter bottles, so and extra 1/3 than a standard wine bottle.  These bottles are fun for entertaining a small gathering, giving a very generous feel to the selections.  They are also great for when sharing a bottle with that special someone, and you want just a bit more but don't want to open a second bottle.  We'll also taste two great Bag in Box 3 Liters.  Similar to screw caps, Bag in Box wines suffer from a quality stigma because so many bad wines were packaged that way back in the 70's, 80's and into the 90's.   Over the past couple decades though, we've seen a retooling of the BiB wines.  Better quality materials are used for the bags these days, like mylar, that don't leech off flavors onto the wine.  In a desire to control freight costs and carbon footprints, many winemakers looked to the Bag in Box as an alternative to glass bottles, putting higher and higher quality wines into the format.  Last, but certainly not least, these are the perfect packaging for those who just like to have a single glass every now and then - since the bags empty as poured, without any oxygen getting in, you can have the occasional glass from a 3 Liter BiB (4 bottles) over a month or two without and degrading of the wine quality.  We selected a good variety of styles of wine to taste on Saturday, and think we have something for everyone!
