Two Tastings This Week!

12/1/2017

Around the Globe with Broadbent Selections

Picture

Friday, December 1st
5:00 - 7:00

As an extra tasting this week to kick off December, we've invited our good friend Max Kast of Broadbent Selections to join us and taste a delightfully diverse selection of wines from around the world.  Michael Broadbent is one of the most renowned experts in Port and Madeira, and established his family name as leaders in the wine world.  His son Bartholomew expanded his scope beyond the classic fortified wines, and put together a portfolio spanning the globe of beautiful wines.  When they look for wines to import, Broadbent Selections has a few absolutes. First and foremost, the wine must be the very best of its type. It’s not enough for a wine to please them; its quality and value must bowl them over. It’s been said that the difference between a good meal and a great meal is that, with the former, you finish the meal thinking, “The food was good”. With a great meal however, you think, “Life is good”. And that’s precisely what they look for, and what they’re proud to represent; wines that gratify not just the palate, but the soul. Yet, they do more than represent wine. They also represent the people and passion behind those wines, which is why, since they were founded in 1996, their focus has always been on family-owned wineries, on places with personality and stories, and on wines that come from the heart. Quality and character: those are absolutes.  Our local representative for Broadbent is Max Kast, well known in Triangle wine circles as one of the most knowledgeable people in the business, and will have wonderful background information for the featured wines.

French Imports of Cape Classics

Picture

Saturday, December 2nd
4:30 - 7:00

With our weekly Saturday tasting we welcome back another long time friend of Hope Valley Wine as we are joined by Zingo Munger of Cape Classics.  Since 1992, Cape Classics has been importing wines of wonderful complexity and depth from South Africa, and we have featured those wines on many occasions.  Within the last decade, however, they have expanded their focus and began bringing some incredible French gems to the US market as well.  Their focus with the French wines they represent follows the same ethos as their South African selections - behind every farm, winemaker, bottle and grape lies an untold story. Collectively, the people at Cape Classics discover these tales and share them with customers. Demanding authenticity, they operate the “old-fashioned” way, with relationships and social responsibility at the forefront of their business. The wineries they represent embrace sustainable eco and social practices, doing their part to help preserve lands for future generations while improving the human condition now.
