Weekly Saturday Tasting

3/30/2023

Kosher Wines

Picture
Saturday, April 1st
1:00 - 3:00

For many wine drinkers, Kosher Wines are a category of necessity over quality. Whenever Passover is approaching, I have customer's come in and ask if we have any Kosher wines that are "at least ok"? Well we are happy to say that we have some fantastic selections that are not just ok, but are top level, quality-focused wines, more that good enough to stand on their own whether Kosher or not. The days of Manischewitz being the best option are long over, and we are seeing better and better wines that are Kosher for Passover, especially being imported from Israel. While many of the highest regarded Israeli wines still do not make it to North Carolina, the selection we have to choose from is heads and shoulders above where it was just 10-15 years ago. We will be sampling five favorites this Saturday made by The Golan Heights Winery. Since 1983, they've been leaders in viticulture out of the Galilee region, and make wines in a wide variety of styles and pricepoints. So whether you celebrate Passover and need some good options, or would like to get a gift for friends who celebrate, or if you're just intrigued and want to taste and see, come join us Saturday for an excellent selection of Kosher Wines.

Extra Tasting Next Week!

Coto de Gomariz

Picture
Tuesday, April 4th
5:00 - 7:00

We had a great time with the extra tasting on Tuesday of last week, thanks to everyone who came out. Next
week we have another excellent opportunity to start your week off with a bang! On Tuesday evening, April 4th,
we will host Inma Pazos from the Spanish winery Coto de Gomariz, and will taste through a selection of their
wines.

Nestled at the eastern edge of Galicia, the Ribeiro DO is split by three rivers. Coto de Gomariz is located in the zone of Ribeiro where the slopes overlook the Avia river and consists of 27 hectares. Shisteous, granitic and sandy soils, steep slopes, tiny yields and a unique microclimate make this spot ideal for growing the local varieties which include Treixadura, Godello, Loureira and Albariño. Owner Ricardo Carreiro and winemaker Xosé Lois Sebio have introduced biodynamic principles, and are producing great wines at great prices.

We will have more information next week on exactly which wines we will be tasting, so please check back!
